Notes from Leah

Style for Everyone

Hey, all, Leah here. I wear a lot of pieces from the shop not just because I enjoy their design, but also the variety that comes from incorporating menswear into my wardrobe. I feel I can be more creative with my outfits when I have a broader range of garments, silhouettes, and design details to choose from.

To celebrate this idea, we invited our dear friend Victoria, an Amsterdam-based creative and writer of the blog Mango and Salt, to show just how well so many pieces from the shop work on everyone.

The Philosophy

I believe that when we choose our outfits we shouldn't be hemmed in (no pun intended) by who the garments are designed for. For instance, I appreciate the classic silhouettes, natural fibers, and historic references you find in menswear but that are often hard to find in women's wear.

Above all, the most important things are staying true to your style, having things fit the way you want them to (not just the way they're "supposed to"), and embracing the vibe you're going for.

The Look

For this look, we wrapped Victoria in striped layers, with the plush Italian Donegal Corduroy 5-Pocket Pants and the Bedford Corduroy Two-Pocket Ranch Jacket, both from Wythe. The pants (size 30w) have a slimmer leg and the jacket (size S) has a tailored fit, giving the outfit a streamlined look that doesn't overwhelm her. For more visual texture, we added the ts(s) striped button-down shirt underneath the jacket.

On her feet, Victoria wears a personal favorite of mine, the Paraboot Michael. This style is the Bride, which has a belt closure rather than the typical laces. What I love about Michaels, other than their timeless design, is that they scale so well to any size. For example, they're still proportionate in small sizes, despite being a heftier shoe.

The Accessories

For accessories, we couldn't leave out the Barbour Wax Sports Cap, which we've affectionately dubbed "La Victoria," in honor of how well she wears it. It's an ideal piece for a rainy place like Amsterdam, since the waxed cotton repels water.

Victoria also included her own jewelry and a vintage Coach handbag that she restored herself for some personal touches.

As you can see, with a bit of creativity, it's easy to assemble a look that suits you, makes you comfortable, and is true to your style, no matter who the clothing was designed for.
