Battenwear describes itself as made for the contemporary adventurer: someone who needs well-made pieces that thrive as well in the great outdoors as in the city. They were founded in 2011 in New York City and opened a design studio in Topanga Canyon, CA, in 2017.

Battenwear's designer, Shinya Hasegawa, draws his inspiration from surf and outdoor wear from the late 1960s through the early 1980s, capturing the era's constant change and progressive energy.
